What is the difference between bodywork and massage therapy?

Bodywork refers to the manual manipulation of muscular and connective tissue in the body in order to help alleviate the pain and to restore function. Bodywork is similar to massage. Massage is any technique where you rub or manipulate the skin with the goal of relaxation, whereas bodywork is more of a broad, deeper movement using different types of modalities such as stretching, myofascial hold and release, trigger point therapy, to named a few, and certain movement for bodywork holds a compression to create space in the body, and bringing more fluidity to the fascia. Bodywork is intentional approach and direct, it can be a little bit painful for like a day or two after each session, but at the same time the goal is to relax the fascial network.
